PROJECTS
SOLO
Maija’s work as a soloist covers new music performances, free improvisation and creating own audiovisual compositions. In her concerts she likes to combine these different practices to fit the space and the moment, creating an organic sound flow that explores the grey zone between composition and improvisation.

Maija has commissioned new compositions for bass clarinet and live electronics from eight different composers and she has played solo concerts in Finland, Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal. In her improvisation, Maija is mainly using her own interactive SoLow application, that she has built using Max/MSP.

Maija's audiovisual solo EP 16m² was released in June 2024
TAMPERING ENSEMBLE

MAIJA ANTTILA & JONATHAN NAGEL
The duet of Maija Anttila and Jonathan Nagel bridges the space between minimalist soundscapes and overwhelming walls of sound. Their instruments, the bass clarinet and contrabass, call for low roaring, but they are also able to produce a wide range of percussive sounds. Through live processing with various effects, dense sonic textures are created which draw the listener into an abstract and fascinating world.

Maija Anttila & Jonathan Nagel released their debut album Way Over Time through Xilent records in May 2023.
ERANTO
Eranto is a Finnish word for the angle between magnetic north and true north. This angle varies depending on position on the Earth's surface and changes over time.

Eranto specializes in conceptual and free improvisation. The starting point for their music is rather in images, maps and stories than in sheet music and chord progressions. In this group primitive expression meets todays technology and a strong, hands-on musicianship.

Eranto released their debut single Coreconus albula in June 2023
